About Ceylon Tea

Ceylon tea is acclaimed as the best tea in the world. Tea became the principle crop in Sri Lanka in 1870. Sri Lanka produces tea throughout the year.

Tea produced by the factories are broadly grouped under three categories: low grown teas, mid grown teas and high grown teas (which are cultivated above 1200 metres).

The highest of high growns "Nuwara Eliya" is the champagne of Sri Lankan tea. Others are preferred for their bright colour and flavour and contain unique seasonal characteristics. Low grows mainly consist of leafy grades, where the leaves are well twisted with a black appearance and could be graded into long particles.

Tea is very much influenced by climatic conditions. Therefore it is always blended to obtain a proper combination of teas required to give a specific taste.

Sri Lanka ranks as the 3rd largest tea producing country in the world. However it is the largest exporter of tea in the world today: making Ceylon Tea the most famous household name in Tea internationally.
