A century of growth
Tea was first introduced to Kenya in 1903 in Limuru, where experimental plantings of Camellia sinensis proved successful. Commercial cultivation began in 1924 and was initially managed by colonial settlers.
Smallholder tea cultivation began in the 1950s, marking an important shift in the industry. In 1957, the first smallholder tea factory was established in Ragati, Nyeri, under a management agreement with multinational tea companies.
In 1960, the Special Crops Development Authority was established under the Ministry of Agriculture. It was succeeded in 1964 by the Kenya Tea Development Authority, which assumed responsibility for managing and developing smallholder tea production.
Today, Kenya stands among the world's leading tea-producing nations, supported by a structured, productive and farmer-driven industry.
Grown across the Great Rift Valley
Kenya's equatorial location enables a rare year-round harvest across 19 tea-growing counties. Cultivated at elevations of approximately 1,500 to 2,700 metres, the tea benefits from rich volcanic red soils and abundant rainfall, producing bold, brisk and full-bodied cups.
Rolling plains and undulating hills produce varied, distinctive liquors with strength and character.
Mountainous terrain produces some of Kenya's most sought-after high-elevation teas.

Bulk tea for diverse markets
We source and supply both CTC and orthodox Kenyan teas, offering profiles suited to tea bags, milk tea, loose-leaf products, blends and private-label programmes.
Crush, Tear, Curl processing transforms tea leaves into small, uniform pellets. It produces strong colour, a brisk flavour and reliable consistency, making CTC especially suitable for tea bags and milk-based teas.
A traditional, carefully managed process preserves the leaf's structure and integrity. The result is a refined cup with complex flavours, delicate aromas and distinctive loose-leaf character.
